This project for Amy's Kitchen in downtown Petaluma is an adaptive re-use of a historic building, updating an old department store into a home for the local company and vibrant center for hosting events with the community. The design is centered around a tasting and demonstration kitchen which is the heart of the three-story atrium space. The client is experimenting with new agile work-settings that will change the way they work and shape the design of the surrounding touchdown areas. The unique space is being entirely updated with new windows and mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. The full seismic retrofit and mezzanine ties the existing fabric of the building together and provides additional floor area. The project will serve as a sustainable model through adaptive reuse, energy efficiency strategies, a commitment to source 100% renewable off site energy, and low-impact materials.
